Other than organizing pre-existing information, concept maps are also a great way to learn something new on your own! You can do this by creating your own concept map.
An Approach to Creating Your Own Concept Map
- Create a question that you would like to answer. For example, "How does an airplane fly?", or "Why did World War II start?" Place this at the center of your map.
- List down as many ideas as you can relating to your question, based on your own existing knowledge, creating a node for each idea.
- Create links between the ideas and label them.
- Undertake research to flesh out your concept map, including extending the map with additional ideas and links.
